UN Human Rights Commissioner urges TGoNU to ensure justice and accountability

Preliminary investigations by the United Nations into recent fighting in Juba reveal government security forces carried out killings and rapes, and looted and destroyed properties.
In a written statement, the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Zeid Ra’ad Al Hussein says more than 70 civilian deaths were recorded between the 8th and 25th of July.
The UN human rights chief is asking the UN Security Council to take stronger action against perpetrators of the sexual violence.
Speaking to Radio Miraya, Rupert Colville, a spokesperson for the UN Human Rights office in Geneva said more than 200 cases of sexual abuse have been documented in Juba.
