Students across the High Peak have been nervously opening A level exam results this morning (Thursday 18 August). Glossop and New Mills are celebrating a 100% pass rate for A levels. At Glossopdale Community College every sixth former who took an exam has passed, with 80% achieving C grades and above. More than twenty percent achieved A and A stars. And Ella Nixon has secured a place to study history at Cambridge after getting three A stars. Meanwhile over at New Mills Sixth Form all those year 13 students who wanted to go on to university have achieved a place. Success stories include students like Alex Greensmith who has got the grades to study Broadcast Journalism and Amelia Fernley who’s off to study Law & Criminology. And there were also celebrations at Buxton Community College where the pass rate was up and A-level grades better than ever. The number of students getting three A star to B grades is up by 8% and the average grade is up by half a grade on last year. Lydia Weston with three A stars was the highest achieving student. She’ll be heading to Newcastle to study politics. On High Peak Viewpoint June Hughes from the University of Derby advised students who haven’t made the grade not to panic as there are alternatives.
