[...] "there really is no time to delay, given the acute humanitarian needs of the population and the insecurity that has plagued many parts of the country, the U.S. Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Samantha Power, said on arrival in South Sudan for a three day visit to the country.
Ambassador Power said impediments that interfere with the UNMISS ability to do its work must be put to a halt. She noted that the negative Rhetoric about the UN does not help anybody, it just makes the UN a target and it endangers South Sudanese civilians and it has to stop.
Ambassador Power delivered this statement stressing that the UN Security council needs to see progress, on the deployment of the regional protection force, and lifting obstruction of humanitarian actors and of UNMISS and of moving the political agreement, which is the foundation of a stability in South Sudan.
