8 million pounds. That's what will be spent by Stormont to free up jobs for newly qualified teachers. At present around half of those who qualify to teach each year - are without regular work. The 'Teaching Workforce Scheme' will mean 120 teachers aged 55 and over - are released from the profession at their request. In turn that'll provide job opportunities for recently qualified teachers.

BUT - here's the catch. You must have qualified in the years from 2012 up to, and including, 2016 to be eligible for the jobs. The Education Minister Peter Weir told me about the scheme.
