93 year old North Petherton prisoner of war Steve Cairns on BBC Somerset

He survived massacres, a bullet in his thigh, digging his own grave, being a POW & the Burma Thailand Death Railway.

Steve Cairns started as an apprentice, before being co-opted into the Navy when war broke out to fit guns to vulnerable convoy ships. He was just twenty one. He told BBC Somerset when he first saw action.
