Named after one of Jupiter's moons iO Tillet Wright is an author, activist and photographer. In this honest memoir iO explains how it was being brought up in the Lower East Side of Manhattan in the 80's and 90's where being eccentric or weird was normal. The memoir starts with a moving letter from iO to his mum who was a showgirl, dancer and addict. iO spent much of his childhood hungry for a hot cooked meal and living in fear that the boys in the bathroom would suss out that he was girl. Gender and identity are explored in this beautifully written book.
