Cabinet accepts deployment of Regional Protection Force anytime from now.

The announcement was made by deputy information minister Akol Paul Kordit after the regular Council of Ministers meeting in Juba.

Speaking to Journalists shortly after the council of Ministers meeting in Juba, Akol said the ministers unanimously agreed to the force’s deployment to allow the resettlement of displaced persons and pave way for lasting peace and development.

The 4,000-strong force was authorised by the UN Security Council in August to provide extra protection following renewed fighting in July. The force will serve under a strengthened mandate of the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS).
