The Sun in South Sudan is free and while fuel prices remain high, One man has found it possible to power a radio station using the solar energy.

Issa Kassimu, built a solar power system providing 100 percent clean electrical power to Mayardit FM – a community based radio station in Turalei, Twic. The station uses the solar power to broadcast to 100km for 16 hours a day, 6am to 10pm.

Kassimu will present his invention at the Radio Tech Conference – which is the UK radio industry's annual technical conference that attracts broadcast engineers and anybody with an interest in radio.

On line from London, he shared the inspiration of his creation with Radio Miraya's Sani Martin.
