South Sudan Ambassador to UN applauds role of UNMISS, says no to sanctions

The United Nations Security Council has unanimously approved an extension of the UN Mission in South Sudan till December 15th 2017. The 15-nation Security Council authorized the Mission to protect civilians, monitor and investigate human rights abuses and violations, create conditions conducive to the delivery of humanitarian assistance, and support implementation of the Agreement on the Resolution of the Conflict.

South Sudan’s Ambassador to the UN, Joseph Moum Majak Ngor Malok, said the consistent support for the extension of the UNMISS Mandate is an indication of his country’s appreciation for the mission’s contribution to the country.

Joseph Moum Majak Ngor Malok, addressed the Council, stressing that rather than negative threats of sanctions and punishment, what South Sudan needs is a positive and constructive agenda that includes the return of security and stability.
