SAQ on 17.2 kHz December 24, 2016

This is Grimeton Radio / SAQ transmitting their annual Christmas Eve message on 17.2 kHz using the 200 kW Alexanderson alternator. The signal is weak but mostly readable to the trained weak signal ear. The file starts with the last few "VVV VVV VVV de SAQ SAQ SAQ" during the transmitter tune-yp. Then there is a brief pause fallowed by the message. You won't often hear hand sent Morse code from commercial stations these days! The message also contains punctuation you will very rarely hear on the airwaves in Morse code - the colon is used twice. To receive this signal from across the Atlantic I was using a $14 low freqeuncy receive conveter kit and my 80 meter inverted V antenna with just the center conductor of the coax connector plugged in.
