The Utah Division of Oil, Gas and Mining hopes to close 200 open mines in western Tooele County, continuing a long-running public safety effort. Program leaders say mine shafts and adits prove tempting to explorers, but are extremely dangerous. The 2017 effort would focus on the Clifton Hills area.
