Old Blue Tent
Enda, did you see today The buggy and the old blue tent That family who couldn’t pay — They’re there, ’cause they don’t have rent.
Enda, did you turn away From poverty and basic need; To give your buddies extra pay To feed their egos and their greed.
I know that man gave you a vote, It pains him to relate; To vote again, I know he’s loath You turned his hope to hate. He’s sickened when he hears you say “The economy’s doin’ fine!” ‘But you don’t have sleep or stay In an old blue tent like mine‘.
Enda, did you close your eyes To the plight of that poor kid? Who swallowed all your blatant lies As many others did.
Raise the blinds of basic rights Give a door key, or the rent. To that family in cold shameful plight. Who sleep in an old blue tent. — © Frank Callery
