Figure in Twilight
(A song for a harp and a sweet voice, After F.R. Higgins)
In the twilight where you stand among the women I can see the ghosts of many who imbibe The beauty of you lovely mouth of silence The hint of light that hides in your dark eyes.
There are woods that would rejoice if you should walk Among the shadows hanging from each branch Or by the lake that holds the crescent moon — There too, you silent beauty would entrance.
Chorus For they say you are a changeling of the meek; And they say your silence touches the divine. Mine, is the wish that you might speak Your name, or from your silence utter mine.
But you move, and in moving, hug the shadows And I am left bereft by this dark brink, Calling through the twilight, your lost name, A cypher writ on moss in cobweb ink.
