David Shearer is the new Special Representative of the Secretary General to South Sudan. Mr. Shearer arrived in Juba on Friday 20 January 2017 to succeed Ellen Margrethe Løj who completed her assignment in November 2016.
His international career spans two decades, with extensive political and humanitarian experience from the United Nations in Iraq, Lebanon and Afghanistan to political ambitions in his home country New Zealand and now Head of the United Nations in South Sudan.
In this interview with Gabriel Shadar, Mr. Shearer shares his first impressions, expectations and priorities for his new assignment.
