The leader of the People’s Liberal Party is demanding tax exemptions on all food items.

Peter Mayen says traders bringing in food should be excused from paying taxes to reduce market costs and address shortages.
Speaking on the Miraya Breakfast show, Mayen said costs are being driven up by a combination of factors including the insecurity, a lack of hard currency and high taxes.

This, he says, was recently compounded by an increase in work permit fees for foreign nationals, some of whom are traders.

Peter Mayen, told Samuel Pawon, Miraya Breakfast show host, that an ‘all-out’ tax would go a long way in making food more available and affordable.
