Outgoing UN Peacekeeping Chief says Regional Protection Force expected soon

The outgoing Under Secretary-General of the United Nations for Peacekeeping Operations has concluded a visit to South Sudan stressing the need for a political solution to the crisis.

Addressing a press conference in Juba, Hervé Ladsous underscored the need for unfettered humanitarian access and an immediate cessation of all hostilities. Mr. Ladsous, accompanied by Under-Secretary-General designate Jean-Pierre Lacroix, also announced the imminent deployment of the Regional Protection Force to secure Juba and its surroundings.
