Renewed clashes between government and armed opposition groups have been reported in Wau, forcing an estimated 3,000 civilians to seek protection in the Catholic Church compound.

The skirmishes that broke out in South and South-Western parts of Wau town this morning follow a similar incident last Friday between the SPLA and an armed group in the same area.

Father Moses Peter the Humanitarian Coordinator of the Catholic Church in Wau spoke to Radio Miraya and says the displaced persons, women and children are in desperate need of assistance.
