Government approves $500,000 for stranded S.Sudanese University students in Zimbabwe

The government has approved the release of $500,000 US to settle tuition fees for stranded South Sudanese students on government scholarship in Zimbabwe.

The 145 students have been locked out of class for non-payment of their fees since 2015. About 30 students launched a peaceful protest at the South Sudan embassy in Harare demanding attention.

The Minister of Higher Education, Yien Oral Lam told Radio Miraya in an exclusive interview that cabinet in an extraordinary meeting on Tuesday approved the release of the $500,000 and directed for a committee to be formed to take the money to Zimbabwe within the next few days.
