Aten Wek Aten says sacking of Gen Malong is “Normal”

General Paul Malong, South Sudan’s powerful army chief of staff has been relieved of his position.

President Salva Kiir sacked Malong in a presidential decree announced on Tuesday on national television.

The President issued a second decree appointing General James Ajongo Mawut, the former deputy chief of general staff for administration and finance, as the new head of armed forces.

Speaking to Miraya Breakfast show, the Presidential Spokesperson, Aten Wek Aten, toned down the move as "routine", describing it as "a normal process” adding that the “Job of chief of staff is not permanet.”
