Weekly Brexit news round-up with Oli Dugmore

Episode 68,   May 16, 2017, 01:00 AM

Nil points for guessing last week’s biggest #Brexit news story… X Factor’s Lucie Jones claiming a mighty 15th position in Eurovision with her track ‘Never Give Up On You’. But while it might bring some cosy cohesion to Saturday night TV, pop isn’t always short for populist, and back in the real world the fallout from Britain’s decision to leave the EU remains fractious. Oli Dugmore, an editor of student website The Tab, joins Tim for this week’s news round-up where they look at Emmanuel Macron’s first steps as the new French president, and whether the centrist leader will be able to rip away some of London’s clout as the world’s foremost financial centre. Oli also addresses how EU Commission kingpin Jean-Claude Juncker is looking to end dinner-table leaks, witnesses a big jump in British passport applications, and reports on whether a resolution over the Irish border conundrum is any nearer. He also ends the show on a potential bombshell for the upcoming general election by suggesting that much like Saturday night kitsch entertainment, polls predicting a Theresa May landslide might not be completely in tune with the electorate.
