When [f500link]Microsoft[/f500link] debuted its first Surface device in 2012, it was pitched as the tablet that could replace your laptop. But Windows fans have been dying for the software giant to release a full-blown laptop for years.
The Surface Laptop, starting at $999 and launching on Thursday, is that device. Microsoft dipped its toes into the notebook space with 2015's Surface Book, but it was still a tablet hybrid. The appropriately-named Surface Laptop is the company's first true laptop.
