UNMISS chief visits Bunj to assess peacekeeping response

The Head of the UN Mission in South Sudan David Shearer has visited Bunj in Northern Upper Nile to assess the role of UNMISS peacekeepers on the ground.

Some 150 UN Peacekeepers, mainly from Rwanda are stationed in Bunj, conducting patrols as part of their mandate to protect civilians.

Bunj has a population of 140,000 refugees from Sudan and a host community of 20,000.

Mr. Shearer acknowledged the challenges on the ground and applauded the UN support to the communities.
