The World Food Program (WFP) has completed a cycle of distribution in areas previously affected by famine in Southern Unity.

Food was delivered to benefit up to 52,000 people including 11,000 children under the age of five in Dablual, Mayendit, Thaker and Rubkuay all in Mayendit county of Unity State.

The UN declared South Sudan free of famine last month, but warned that 45,000 people in former Unity and Jonglei States are still experiencing catastrophic conditions and face prospects of starvation if humanitarian assistance is not sustained.

WFP rapid response teams also delivered much needed assistance to Pathai, Karam, Pading and Akobo East in Central Jonglei.

WFP Communications Officer George Fominyen explains more on the deliveries and highlights more on the agency’s activities over the past week.
