On July 5, 2017, New York City Police Department Officer Miosotis Familia was fatally shot while sitting in her patrol car. The next day, NYPD Commissioner James O'Neill described the incident as an "unprovoked attack on cops." Thousands attended Familia's funeral on July 11, where O'Neill gave the following remarks.
