Belfast City Council has voted in favour of a motion extending the powers to deal with dangerous bonfires. The motion was carried by 31 votes to 21. Unionists all voted against the motion at a meeting of the council last night, saying it was unnecessary. It was brought by the Sinn Fein leader on the council Jim McVeigh.
