UN Peacekeeping Chief says deployment of Regional Protection Force is on track

The undersecretary for UN Peacekeeping Operations, Jean-Pierre Lacroix, says efforts are being made to expedite the deployment of the Regional Protection Force.

Addressing a news conference at the end of his three-day visit to South Sudan, Mr Lacroix explained that the Nepal and part of the Bangladesh engineering unit are already in the country.

He said that efforts are being made to expedite the arrival of a battalion from Rwanda.

The UN Peacekeeping operations chief expressed concerns about the fighting and its impact on the population and emphasized that warring parties must do their level best to bring an end to the fighting.

Lacroix said he hopes that the deployment of the Regional Protection force will help increase and enhance a climate of confidence in Juba and other parts of the country.
