Civil society welcomes arrival of Regional Protection Forces in South Sudan

Reaction to the announcement on the the arrival, over the weekend, of the first 120 soldiers of the Rwandan battalion of the Regional Protection Force has been swift, including from the Civil society activists.

During a news conference on Tuesday, David Shearer, Special Representative of the Secretary General, said additional troops would enable the mission put more patrols along insecure roads such as the Juba-Nimule and Juba-Bor roads.

The executive Director of the Community Empowerment for Progress civil society Organization, Edmund Yakani reacted to that saying the deployment of Regional Protection Forces would boost the strength of civilian protection.

Yakani said any steps taken to secure the Juba – Nimule Road would not only boost the economy, but also provide safety and protection to the civilians.
