@JohnODowdSF takes on @ClaireHanna over SDLP call for Sinn Fein MPs to take seats to try to secure a soft Brexit

Sinn Fein should take their seats at Westminster to help secure a soft Brexit for the UK.

That's the call from the SDLP.

It comes as the Labour party made a dramatic shift in policy over the weekend.

It now supports full participation in the single market and customs union during a lengthy "transitional period" before leaving the EU.

The SDLP has called on Sinn Fein to take the party's Westminster seats to back Labour's new position.

Brexit talks are due to take place in Brussels later today. The Irish border is expected once again to be high on the agenda. Our economics and business editor - John Campbell is in Brussels
