Charlottesville Mayor Agrees to Curtail His Actions

He was the voice of Charlottesville after the deadly white supremacist rally, but after a Wednesday afternoon closed-door meeting lasting more than three hours, Mayor Mike Signer agreed to start sharing the gavel. Hawes Spencer from Member Station WCVE has this report.

Total Run Time: (:40)

Signer blamed the city manager for vacationing and the police chief for hoarding info. Now, he vows to stop micromanaging and making solo announcements-- actions, he now admits,

"that overstepped the bounds of my role as mayor."

Fellow City Councilor Kathy Galvin hinted at the stakes:

"The Charlottesville City Council accepts the mayor's apology and does not request his resignation but affirms support."

For professor Jalane Schmidt, this truce isn't enough.

"I think it's time for new leadership from the police chief, from the city manager, from the mayor."

All five City Councilors appeared after the meeting, but none took questions.
