The UN Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) says it will be able to deploy more peacekeeping patrols along roads and highways when the Regional Protection Force has been fully deployed.

UN Special Representative David Shearer says the arrival of all 4,000 RPF troops mandated by the UN Security Council, would allow the mission step up patrols in other areas including the Juba-Yei, Juba-Nimule and Juba-Bor roads.

Mr. Shearer communicated this in a meeting with President Salva Kiir on Wednesday.

The SRSG also informed the President that UNMISS Peacekeepers will assist in the rehabilitation of roads.

Listen to UNMISS spokesperson Daniel Dickinson for what transpired in the meeting between the SRSG and the President and more on the mission’s activities over the past week.
