On Tuesday, Apple (AAPL, Tech30) unveiled new smartwatches, an Apple TV and the iPhone 8 and 8 Plus at a press event. But the showstopper was a premium device called iPhone X, with a starting price that would have once seemed laughable for a phone: $999. Tim Cook, Apple’s CEO, framed the device as being nothing short of “the future of the smartphone.” “The first iPhone revolutionized a decade of technology and changed the world in the process,” Cook said on stage. “Now, ten years later, it is only fitting that we are here in this place on this day to reveal a product that will set the path for technology for the next decade.”
