It was a chance to show a united front but instead Arlene Foster and Michelle O'Neill clashed at a Tory conference fringe event yesterday. Speaking at the Ulster Fry breakfast event in Manchester, Mrs O'Neill said, "the North isn't British," when asked if an Irish language act would make it less British. Mrs Foster told the same audience she did not want to turn the event into a row but that, "Northern Ireland is British". Both leaders agreed that a deal would have to be cut by the end of this month if not sooner. But how likely is that, if they can't get through a half hour discussion without falling out? Vinny got the views of commentator Alex Kane and former Sinn fein MLA Daithi McKay.
