How to Recognize the Sound of Gunshots

"The first round of shots I heard, I thought they were fireworks," Las Vegas shooting survivor Kelly Moore told TIME. "I turned towards Mandalay Bay thinking, 'I’ll see sparks pretty soon.'"

Moore was one of many on the scene at the Route 91 Harvest Festival who thought they were hearing pyrotechnics when in fact gunman Stephen Paddock had opened fire on the crowd.
