UNMISS Clarifies Kidnap allegations

The UN Mission in South Sudan says it continues to carry out coordinated peacekeeper escorts for women and young girls leaving protected sites to collect firewood and other non-food items.

The reassurance comes after reports that four women went missing on Sunday as they looked for firewood near the PoC 3 site in Juba, sparking fears that they had been kidnapped and raped.

Acting UNMISS spokesperson Shantal Persaud clarifies that the women later returned to the site unharmed.
