Boat Radio – Roy Finlay – Rowing the Atlantic Ocean

Nov 01, 2017, 05:00 AM

Roy Finlay is a name that will be forever associated with ocean rowing. As an oarsman, skipper and boat designer, he is directly connected to thirty world ocean rowing records. As a young man, he worked as an underwater bomb disposal expert for the British Royal Navy. Later, he sold wine, built houses, kayaked around Scotland and delivered boats worldwide. He has spent a great deal of his life at sea and the rest either on the move or planning his next one. It is his intention to introduce a new ‘one design’ Atlantic rowing race featuring the Expedition 40 trimaran – a boat of his own design. Boat Radio’s Mike McDowall talked to Roy Finlay at his home near Felanitx on the Mediterranean island of Mallorca.
