UNMAS celebrates 20 years of Mine Action Service, takes stock of achievements and setbacks

On Saturday November 04th, the UN Mine Action Service - UNMAS celebrates 20 years of existence.

In South Sudan, the #UNMAS is an integral part of the UN mission in the country, assisting the mission to implement its mandate to protect civilians, monitor and report human rights and facilitate the delivery of humanitarian aid.

Tim Lardner, UNMAS program officer in South Sudan says during their time in the country, they have cleared 120,000 hectares of land, 4.3million items of UXOs and made safe 28,000 kms of road network.

Lardner spoke to Irene Lasu and Sebit William and started off by sharing the story behind the founding of UNMAS.
