Former Chief of Staff Released from House Arrest

Former army chief of staff Gen Paul Malong Awan has been released from house arrest, ending a standoff over his release and redeployment of security forces deployed at his Juba residence. The President’s spokesperson Aten Wek Ateny says Malong was freed on medical grounds but is still in the country awaiting travel.

Ateny confirms to Radio Miraya that the release was ordered by President Salva Kiir.
