New research by the University of Kent has revealed landlords aren't prioritising tenants' safety despite the ongoing enquiry into the Grenfell Tower fire. The report led by homeless charity Shelter says many housing laws are out of date, and health and safety isn't being considered properly. A lack of legal aid also means tenants are less likely to challenge their landlord about issues - and they're said to be scared about evictions in the private sector if they speak up. Helen Carr from the Uni of Kent worked on the research into the laws.
