It was a bad day in the office for the star Indian shuttlers as Saina Nehwal and HS Prannoy crashed out of the China Open after losing their respective second round matches in Shanghai on Thursday.
Prannoy — who recently acquired his highest ever BWF ranking of 11 — lost to China's Cheuk Yiu Lee who is ranked 53 in the world. Lee thumped Prannoy in straight games and won the match 21-19, 21-17 in just 42 minutes to progress.
While as for Saina, she lost to World Number 4 Akane Yamaguchi in straight games. The Japanese entered the round three of competition after recording a 21-18, 21-11 win over Saina.

While addressing a press conference on the ongoing Padmavati row, Karni Sena chief Lokendra Singh Kalvi has threatened to chop off actor Deepika Padukone's nose if she continues to defend the film. He also raised questions on Padmavati's funding and alleged that the fugitive don Dawood Ibrahim has funded the film. Kalvi also added that while they have already written to the censor board, nif the need be, the Karni Sena members can die fighting against the film. Meanwhile, UP government wrote to the Union Secretary of Ministry of Information and Broadcasting requesting them to ensure that the prospects of public outrage and unrest over film are considered before certification of the magnum opus.

Electronics major Samsung has promoted two of its India executives -- Asim Warsi and Dipesh Shah -- to global roles. Warsi, who is the head of Samsung India's mobile division, has been promoted to Global Vice President, while Dipesh Shah (Samsung R&D Institute Managing Director) has been named Global Senior Vice President. The elevations are in recognition of Samsung India's strong performance during 2017 and the role played by the two executives.
AUTO Lamborghini gave Pope Francis a personalised white supercar on Wednesday, but he put it up for auction to raise money for charity rather than give up his trademark popemobile. The model features gold stripes and gold-rimmed wing mirrors in homage to the pope's gold-tipped stole.
The money raised will go to four charitable projects, including one aimed at rebuilding the homes and churches of persecuted Christians in the Nineveh Plains in Iraq.
