The Dublin government wants an assurance from the UK that there'll be a soft border post Brexit. If they don't get that negotiations on future trade arrangements between the UK and Europe won't start anytime soon. So in the words of European Council president Donald Tusk "the UK's future lies - in some ways - in Dublin, at least as long as Brexit negotiations continue."
