kmfm's been told more than half of school children considered to be in poverty in Kent could miss out on free school meals under new universal credit proposals. The government's considering to introduce means testing so parents who earn more than £7400 a year no longer qualify, potentially leaving an estimated 27,000 school children without a free lunch. Children year 2 and under already qualify for free school meals - but more than 42000 school children in Kent in year 3 and above are considered to be in poverty. Peter Grigg is from The Children's Society who've released the figures. A national consultation closes next month.
