  • Dec. 20-21 expected to be busiest holiday travel days AAA predicts a record number of people will travel for the holidays. Motorists can expect peak congestion on Dec. 20 and 21. AAA forecasts 107.3 million Americans will take to planes, trains, automobiles and other modes of transportation during the year-end holiday period from Saturday, Dec. 23 through Monday, Jan. 1. More than 118,000 Wisconsin residents will travel by air for the holidays; that's an increase of 5,000 people compared to last year. While the price of gas and rental cars has gone up from last year, AAA says the price of air travel is down slightly. According to AAA, 2017 marks the ninth consecutive year of rising year-end holiday travel.
