The United Nations and donors from a number of diplomatic missions have launched an initiative to curb the growing number of child rights violations in the face of the ongoing fighting.

The Group of Friends of Children and armed Conflict - CAAC, is headed by the Canadian Embassy and co-led by both UNICEF and UNMISS with the involvement of the Chinese, Swedish, European Union and Norwegian Embassies.

The main objective of the initiative is to provide a platform to advocate for support to ensure that all parties to the conflict remove children from their ranks.

Canada’s Ambassador Alan Hamson and UNICEF emergency child protection specialist Sampathi Perera spoke to Sebit William about the importance of this initiative.
