Juba City Legislative Council is discussing an order banning the use and importation of plastic bags.
The instruction was issued last November by the Mayor of Juba City, citing environmental and health concerns.
Michael Ladu Alajabu, Speaker of the Legislative Council says the mayor’s office has provided samples of paper bags that would substitute the plastic or polythene bags.
Ladu says the councilors are examining the impact of the ban on businesses and considering the quality of the paper substitutes.
