The National Bureau of Standards has intensified the fight against consumer exploitation by destroying unstandardized measuring instruments in Juba markets.
Enforcement officers have confiscated cups, buckets and various implements, which traders have been using to weigh commodities - including rice, sugar and beans.
The operation comes after several warnings were issued to the businesspeople last year.
Bethuel Hilal Lojong, the bureau’s Deputy Director for Weights and Measures says the instruments will be destroyed so they do not find their way back into the markets.
He is urging traders to use standardized measuring instruments approved and provided by the Bureau of Standards.
