UN Special Representative David Shearer press statement 24.01.2018

The Special Representative of the Secretary-General also Head of UNMISS, David Shearer, says the UN Mission in South Sudan stands firmly with the international community to condemn any party that initiates violations against the cessation of hostilities agreement.

Speaking at a media briefing in Juba on Wednesday, Mr Shearer said the High-Level Revitalization Forum set to resume in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia on the 5th of February, is an important step in revitalizing the peace process - and said any party in violation of the agreement should be held to account.

The Special Representative also announced the official opening of a peacekeeping base in Yei tomorrow and said the UN Mission is extending peacekeeping presence in Akobo with weekly troop rotations.
