South Sudan Environment Ministry takes steps to protect wetlands

The Ministry of Environment and Forestry is working on new measures to protect the country’s wetlands from destruction.

An independent technical commission composed of specialized persons will be established to conduct an inventory and to assess and monitor the Sudd wetlands in Jonglei.

Joseph Lam Achaye, the Director general of Wetlands and Biodiversity says the team will also carry out public awareness and research and develop the swampy ecosystem.

 Lam explained to Radio Miraya Reporter Philip Wani,  that the Sudd contains rich biodiversity and unique wildlife, which are valuable to the country.
