Crackdown on Plastic bags picks pace, as citizens urged to use baskets

Almost two months after the government banned plastic bags, government agencies finally cracked down on importers of plastic bags.

An undisclosed amount of plastic bags were seized by the city council authorities enforcing a ban.  

The Ministry of Environment has warned that they would penalise vendors and traders.

Roy Samson Dinyi, the Director General for Environmental Information and Education in the Ministry of Environment and Forestry Sources said the drive against polythene bags would continue.
