Religious leaders are recommending the creation of a chaplaincy within the SPLA as part of security sector reforms aimed at creating a more professional and responsible army.

This was one of 16 recommendations drawn up at the end of a ‘citizens-driven regional religious dialogue on security sector reform,’ that was arranged to complement the just concluded revitalization process in Addis Ababa.

Oragnised by the South Sudan Law Society, the forum also recommended review of the country’s security laws, civilian disarmament and recruitment into the organised forces to be done through local chiefs.

The Episcopal Bishop of Nzara Diocese, Reverend Samuel Enosa Peni read out some of the recommendations.
