Episode 3,   Feb 22, 2018, 03:28 AM

We’re back with another episode of Hype Podcast and this week, we’re dedicating the show to talking about Marvel’s Black Panther which hit theaters just last week!

SHOW NOTES:

  • We’re back from our mini break! Well…at least Pam is! Before she’s joined by our special guest host, Chelsea, Pam takes the first few minutes to catch you up on some of last week’s biggest headlines.

  • Our short and sweet headlines from this week’s very short news segment include: A new Incredibles 2 trailer has surfaced, Ryan Murphy has inked a multi-year development deal with Netflix, Maze Runner author James Dashner has been dropped by his literary agent amidst sexual misconduct allegations, WB and DC have officially found their new Joker, and ABC is pulling the plug on Once Upon A Time after seven seasons.

  • It’s time do dive head first into Marvel’s latest superhero film, Black Panther!

  • Pam officially welcome former Hypable movies writer Chelsea Boyd to the show to discuss the new film by Ryan Coogler! Don’t forget to check out Chelsea’s beautiful blog post where she wrote about her experience seeing Black Panther on the big screen!

  • We echo everyone’s sentiments about how important a film like Black Panther is today.

  • We’re especially floored by the attention to detail in the story!

  • We discuss the parallels between the real Black Panther Party and how Coogler and fellow script co-writer Joe Robert Cole wove that into the fabric of the story

  • We break down T’Challa and Erik Killmonger as characters and break down their respective viewpoints (SPOILERS: The Killmonger feels are REAL.)

  • We talk about a few parallels we see between T’Challah and Killmonger and a few famous historical (and fictional!) figures.

  • We also discuss how T’Challa is different from the other superheroes in the Marvel universe.

  • We take a moment to discuss the amazing women of Black Panther and sing their praises.

  • We also take a moment to shine a spotlight on the diversity behind the camera while discussing the costume design, and hair and makeup.

  • Where do we want to see the franchise go from here? What conflicts could we see arising now that Wakanda is committing to helping others around the world?

  • We wrap the show up by picking our favorite scenes and characters.
